Last year I purchased the expensive Get to Work Book and I really liked it, but I ended up enjoying my bullet journal much more. At the end of the year I had this beautiful, barely used book so I decided to use it for my 2017 art journal!
I’ve also joined the Mixed Media Morsels Facebook Group which has been really fun and inspiring. If you don’t know what Mixed Media Morsels are, they are a series of YouTube videos by Cat Hand where she walks through various Mixed Media techniques. I’ve learned a lot and Cat’s intention of providing her viewers with a library of techniques has been a real help to me in facing the blank page!
Here’s what I’ve completed so far:
This little bee was lifted from my sketchbook- she’s a cutie! MMM Techniques used: #2 Collage Background, #21 Doodles, #26 Stenciling
Used up some stencil waste in my stash of “art bits”. Just tore them and decoupaged into place. MMM Techniques used: #2 Collage Background, #26 Stenciling, #22 Outlined Letters.
Here’s the house we almost bought. So sweet- like a little dollhouse. It wasn’t meant to be so I didn’t go any further with this piece. It actually hurts a little to look at it. Just a darling, darling house. No MMM Techniques- just a little collage background and then acrylic paint on top.
Having fun with faces. Her hair are one-inch punch pieces of various papers that got a quick brush of gold paint and a little spiral doodle. Her face is a little wonky, but it was a fun, fun spread to work on. Definitely influenced by Tam at Willowing.org. MMM Techniques: #7 Circles Background, #21 Doodles.
The fashion plates- I bought Julie Nutting’s book, Collage Couture a few months ago and I finally got a chance to play with these fun little figures. Can’t wait to do more of these! MMM Techniques: #3 Alchohol Background, #11 Torn Paper Strips.
So, that’s it so far- I’ve been having such fun! I really encourage anyone who wants to play in mixed media to check out the videos and try it out. Cat works on small cards in the series, so you don’t have to make a large commitment and, honestly, it’s so fun!
Happy making, Friends!
