In a suprising move away from my cloth dollies, I listed a composition doll today on ebay. Unlike my mom’s Ideal baby that I posted about a few weeks ago, this one was already in very good condition. My main contribution here was her outfit. Isn’t it fabulous? (Modest, yes, I know!) The description on ebay is long, so if you link over there you can read more about it. I will say here, I couldn’t have done it without the new book I bought. It’s actually an older book, but it is terrific! It’s called “The Doll’s Dressmaker” by Venus Dodge. The book includes patterns in four sizes, but the best part of it is the way it encourages you to put together the basic patterns in new and beautiful ways. The author is extremely talented and there are lots of great color photos throughout and really great line drawings too. Oh, I even made this dolly’s shoes! There is a chapter in the book on shoemaking! And one on accessories and another on hats. It is a really comprehensive book- I highly, highly recommend it!
For those who might be worried that I’ve strayed from my roots- no fear! Now I am free to start the new play dolls for my darling niece and nephew in Maryland. Hugs to all!
