Every Fall, I am struck by the overwhelming urge to get yarny. I am a very basic crocheter and even slightly less basic knitter, but once a year, I just have to starting making stuff out of yarn! YouTube, I think, has figured this out about me, because recently, darling hats started showing up in my recommended videos!
I fell in love with this very simple beanie cap, ordered some chunky yarn and we were off to the races! Now, the nice thing with this hat, in addition to being very easy, is that Yay for Yarn also offers the pattern on her site with lots of photos or you can even pay a nominal charge and download a PDF of the pattern which is so helpful to refer to when you’re in the thick of it, so to speak!
The first one I made is for my husband and it turned out really well!
Since making Pete’s hat, I’ve made four more:
As fun as the crochet is, perhaps my favorite part of this project is making the little felt badges. I had been thinking that maybe I should add a unique enamel pin to each hat to suit the recipient, but then I thought, why not make my own little pins with needle and thread?? So I did! The ones you see on the forest and dark mauve hats are each one square inch!
*Disclaimer: the surfer badge on Pete’s hat was something he already had.
I’m just thrilled with these hats and their pins. They’re quick, but also very personal which feels like the sweet spot for a gift. My daughter once remarked that I favor gifts that keep people warm! Hey, I’ll take that- I am definitely ALL about the cozy!
What about you? Are you thinking about the holidays yet? I haven’t even broken out my Fall decor, but I am making Christmas gifts! It takes a little time, right?
Be well, friends!
