It’s been so long since I’ve shown any dollies! I had all of these girls in my booth at Vintage N More, but they didn’t sell and I decided to take them home. My thought process is that if an Edith Flack Ackley collector doesn’t come shopping in Citrus Heights, I could put them in cute gift boxes and sell them at Christmas. I know the world is a different place since Edith was selling her dolls in the 1930’s, but I still believe that they are wonderful toys for children and it’s always my hope that each doll will be loved by a girl. All of these dolls were made with the “Baby” pattern in Edith’s book, “Dolls to Make for Fun and Profit”.
The first is Baby Alice. She was inspired by Alice in Wonderland and was my first attempt at smocking. She also has very unique little moccasins that reference the rose bushes in the story. One is embroidered with white roses and the other with red. She has the classic little “O” mouth shown in Edith’s original pattern.
This is Betsy with her dolly. This doll, along with the two below, were actually inspired by the books by Maud Hart Lovelace, “Betsy-Tacy and Tib”, but when I priced them for my booth, I thought the reference might be too obscure so I named them Betsy, Jenny and Mary. I loved those books when I was growing up!
Anyway, since this blog has seen the rest of my EFA dolls, I felt I needed to add these girls. You’ll notice that none of the last three dolls have shoes- shoe making is a process and I guess I was not sufficiently motivated on these girls. But you know what? They like being barefoot!
