Hey! Look at me! I’m in! This is my mother’s sorority pin from 1956. She attended San Jose State and was a member of Delta Zeta. She also worked in a cannery in Monterey during the summers to help pay for college. And earned great grades! Her initials before she married were AV and her friends used to call her Audio-Visual. This was a perfect nickname for a woman who was majoring in education and later became a speech pathologist. She was a remarkable woman and I miss her a lot. She and my father adopted me in 1963 so there is no family resemblance, but I believe we are a part of each other anyway. I’ll never be as accomplished as she was, but as I get older I find myself doing more and more “mom-isms”! This pin reminds me of her and that’s why it’s my self portrait.
