You’re welcome to come to our house! We’re doing an “open house” type thing from 1-4. I like this kind of entertaining because it helps me to be less stressed. I’m not counting heads or RSVP’s. I just take the attitude that I want to enjoy the holiday in my home with certain foods. I set those foods out and if anyone comes by, great. If not, that’s fine too. I’m really glad to be hosting something. I haven’t had anyone over since Christmas in spite of my desire to. Sandy has really been an inspiration to me with her blog, so I hope to do more this summer. I’m following her “Ten Commandments” for entertaining. You’ll see them in her sidebar.

Now, that’s not to say that there isn’t a certain level of stress that comes from living in “the house of unfinished projects.” One project that is getting closer to completion is this desk in the dining room. I last blogged about this in December when I explained what I wanted to do and again when Earl built the desk. Right before the bathroom broke!

As you can see, the desk has finally been painted! It’s only this clear because I know I will need the space for Easter. How do you like my pastel Easter vases that I got at Dollar Tree? They’ll be on the dining table. The skirt on my desk is a temporary one. When I do the big muslin curtain project, I’ll do a matching skirt for the desk. I’m getting closer though! So… two things needed here: 1) curtain walls and 2) fresh wall paint in cream. It’s already so improved just with this part done. Very calm and peaceful.

In other project news, the bathroom is 99% done and it is fully funtional! YAY! It just needs a little trim which I hope I can install before Sunday, but if not, it’s okay. Yes, it’s okay. I’m tired of my house (or my embarassment about my house) keeping me from enjoying the people in my life. Spring break has been so nice- I’m getting a lot done. There’s more too, but I’ll talk about it next week.

I’m not the only one who has been spiffing up her home. Look what the ants under the driveway have been up to:

These stuctures are nothing but dirt! I thought they were weeds covered with dirt, but no-they’re just dirt and they crumble if you touch them (er, sorry about that, ant friends). Aren’t they amazing? I want to learn more about what they’re called. Up till this, the most complicated thing I’ve seen from those ants were mounds that looked like volcanoes. I suppose I should call an exterminator, but they don’t really bother anyone and I find them so interesting!
